Baby'space
(Parent Infant Classes)

Programme created by Pennie Brownlee and based on the teachings by Dr Emmi Pikler

What’s in these classes for you?

Picture
Baby'space  classes are ideally for babies 3 to 7 months old.  Classes happen once a week for 10 weeks and are held in Paeroa, Thames, and Waihi.

These classes are free of charge.

To register for a class please either call 07 868 8644 or email [email protected]

At these classes you will be supported to learn the different aspects which make up the Culture of Respect. You and your baby learn to grow the partnership your baby was born for.  The facilitator will have the room set up for adults and babies in a way that you can feel safe in this environment which is new to you both.

You will learn to ‘see’ your baby
We see our babies and children the way our culture sees babies and children, and not the way that babies actually are. So we will spend time in every session learning to observe the babies with ‘new eyes’.

You will learn about the parent-infant bond which we call the Dance of Partnership
The quality of the relationship between you and your baby decides how his life will turn out. It is that important. In every session there will be tips for building and maintaining the Dance of Partnership.

You will learn how to ‘be’ and how to act so that your baby can work with you
Your baby comes into this world with instincts and abilities that are genetically encoded to enable your baby to work with you so that you two can grow a partnership.

You will learn how to support your baby in their growth
We will look at the issues of physical development, sleep, food, and how to support your baby with these important facets of babyhood.

You will learn how to give your baby a head start by going slowly and respectfully
You will also learn how our culture inadvertently (but very successfully) teaches our babies to be helpless and dependent, with poor posture and poor social skills. In the classes you will learn how not to fall into any of these cultural traps. You will learn how to set it up so that your baby grows towards independence, with perfect posture and superior social skills.
